Tribo Surface Engineering, LLC (Tribo) was started by Ronald L. Christy in 1987, as Tribo Coating and was best known for its proprietary friction reducing coatings. Mr. Christy’s background included over 40 years of PVD coating experience as a Space Coatings Engineer with Ball Aerospace, Hughes Aircraft and TRW specializing in the development, application and testing of spacecraft lubrication systems. He conducted numerous research and hardware programs on slip rings, bearings and other wear surfaces for spacecraft applications. The friction reducing coating developed by Mr. Christy at Tribo Coating was originally intended for NASA and other aerospace applications.
The new organization was formed by a group of engineers and investors to push research and science in the area of surface engineering The facility includes modern machining with CNC capabilities. It also includes a large number of gear generators, gear hobbers, gear shapers and gear grinders. Tribo is capable of fabricating gears to AGMA 12 standards in a production environment.
Tribo offers design, engineering and the manufacturing of fixtures for more efficient and economical processing of parts and materials for our larger customers. Cost is based on the number of times our advanced equipment runs. The custom fixtures allow for many more parts to be implanted or coated at a time. The processes we offer become more economical and larger orders are finished in a shorter period of time.
Tribo Surface Engineering staff's expertise includes plasma physics, internal combustion engine design, mechanical design, controls, heat transfer, and surface engineering. Additional skill sets include: CNC machine operation and programming, conventional lathe and milling machine operation, internal combustion engine maintenance – in racing and commercial environments, and aircraft manufacturing and maintenance.
